Bulgarian Energy Trading Platform AD (BETP AD) is a joint-stock company with a one-tier management system, registered under the Commerce Act of the Republic of Bulgaria. The company holds Licence No. L-533-11 of 25 March 2021, issued by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, for the activity “organisation of an exchange market for natural gas” for a term of 35 years.

Since December 2024 BETP AD has been part of the Romanian Commodities Exchange (Bursa Română de Mărfuri, BRM) group, which also acts as the market’s clearing house.

BETP AD was established to create, develop and operate an organised natural gas exchange market in the Republic of Bulgaria, on the basis of the Energy Act, its implementing regulations and the applicable European legislation. Trading takes place on an electronic platform covering a short-term (spot) and a long-term (forward) segment, as well as the registration of bilateral contracts.

The platform enables natural gas traders and consumers to cover both their short-term and long-term natural gas needs by matching supply and demand by place, time and quantity. BETP AD’s main priority is the gradual development of a complete organised natural gas market at regional level, for the market zone of Bulgaria and its neighbouring countries. Through a reliable, stable and unified regional gas market, BETP AD contributes to greater transparency and liquidity of the natural gas markets in South-East Europe.

BETP AD pursues a policy of transparency, non-discrimination and socially responsible conduct and works to ensure security and sustainable development of the natural gas market in the country and the region, guided by European and Bulgarian legislation. The company monitors strict compliance with Regulation (EU) No 1227/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on wholesale energy market integrity and transparency (REMIT), as amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/1106, thereby restricting insider trading and market manipulation.
